European Youth Cup Boulder

In cooperation with the NKBV and the IFSC we’re hosting the European Youth Cup Boulder (EYCB) on 2 and 3 June. It’s the first time an EYCB is organised in the Netherlands and this event gives a lot of Dutch youth climbers the opportunity to compete against European youth at a top level. Chief Routesetter is Jacky Godoffe in close cooperation with Michiel Nieuwenhuijsen.
Delfts Bleau is open for competitors and their company only on Friday 1 June (registration and technical meeting). Spectators are very welcome on Saturday 2 June (qualifcations) and Sunday 3 June (finals).

With over 200 competitors from all over Europe a schedule is required to make sure everything runs smoothly. Whenever you step by on Saturday between 8 and 21h there will be climbers competing and doing their utmost to reach those finals. You cannot boulder yourself during the weekend but luckily a part of the qualification boulders will still be in the wall the week after and this is the best chance to learn about nice bètas.

The finals start on 8.30h on Sunday morning and the last finalists will finish around 16.15h. There’s no entrance fee and we’ll put up a big stand in order for everyone to have a good view on the boulders and the finalists. Do you like watching but do you prefer being a part of this all? Those holds will need brushing and brushers are very welcome to help out (and will be very appreciated by the climbers).
If you cannot make it all, no worries, there’s a livestream!

DBIYO, db9 XL and opening hours

Registration for the DBIYO closes tonight (28 March) at midnight. Are you still in doubt to go climbing outside this weekend or to join the comp? You have a couple of hours to decide. The participants list will be published tomorrow. For those who already have registrated but haven’t taken care yet of the payment and/or sending in the parental consent form: please do so today.

Friday 30 March, Good Friday, we’re closed. Saturday and SUnday participants and public for the DBIYO are very welcome. Doing a quick boulder yourself in between is not an option unfortunately. For the finals on Sunday (start 10h) we’ll put up a big stand to ensure a good view. No entrance fee!

Monday 2 April, Easter Monday, it’s db9 XL time! Suitable for all adults that climb level 5 (our orange circuit) and harder. We open at 13h, the comp starts at 13.30h and you have until 18h to tick those 25 boulders. After that it’s business as usual and everyone who wants to enjoy a nice bouldering session without the “pressure” of a comp is welcome.

Quick reminder.although with all the flyers in the hall it’s hard to have missed this: Today(We 28) & Thursday (29) we open at 16h!

db9 XL

Monday 2 April, Easter Monday, we open at 13h. As of then you can see, feel and use the new part of the boulder center! 20 meters of extra wall that will be opened during the Delfts Bleau International Youth Open (DBIYO) on Saturday 31 March (qualifications) and Sunday 1 April (finals). You’re very welcome to admire the new wall during the DBIYO and to cheer the young competitors on, but you’ll have to wait with testing that wall until 2 April.

As said, we open at 13h and will almost immediately start with the db9 XL edition at 13.30h. Not the regular 14 boulders but 25 wonderful problems to be solved with starting level 5 (our orange circuit). You’ll have until 18h to top all 25. Award ceremony will be asap afterwards.

Delfts Bleau International Youth Open (DBIYO)

Watching and enjoying the Climbing Works International Festival in Sheffield we wondered why there’s not yet such an opportunity for the Youth JAB to meet and compete just before the opening of the international competition season. Or even just to meet at an international competition not being an EYCB. All brilliant comps are for adults, time for a change!

What if the youth could test where they’re standing on an European level? What if those youngsters that just couldn’t make it to the National Youth Bouldering Team get a chance to prove they should be up there, competing next to members of National Youth Bouldering Teams? What if coaches have an opportunity to test the results of their winter training programme just before their trainees need to peak in the first EYCB of 2018?

We proudly present the Delfts Bleau International Youth Open (DBIYO).
Dates: Qualifications on Saturday 31 March (30 flash boulders) and Finals (4 on sight boulders) on Sunday 1 April 2018.
An open competition for both the top and the sub top of the European Youth competition boulderers with a maximum of 250 competitors. The Delfts Bleau International Youth Open will both be a dry run for the EYCB as well as a platform for talented young boulderers who might experience their first European competition. The boulders will be set by World Cup Setters such as Michiel Nieuwenhuijsen and Jacky Godoffe.

More news for 2018

As promised more news! As per now you can keep track of the boulders you climbed with TickTops. Ideal to keep track of your progress and what boulders you still need to climb. You can also indicate which boulders you find more (or less) difficult than graded and which boulders you really find interesting (or less interesting).

And now for the really big news. Behind the scenes we’ve been busy thinking about this for quite a while, but now it’s final: Bouldercentrum Delfts Bleau is expanding! from the beginning we anticipated to be able to use the space in the back of the gym (which is now being used as workshop and storage) for climbing walls and we think the time is now to do so. More pictures and more details will follow soon, but some numbers to start off with: we will build a little over 100 m²  more climbing surface (that’s almost 20% of our current surface). The new area and mat will connect to the current climbing wall and mat and the slackline will remain where it is now.

The new area connects to the existing area

2018

Team Delfts Bleau wishes you a healthy and sporty 2018!

For those of you who’d like to improve their climbing skills: each first Monday of the month of Q1 we’ll organise the Bleau Technique   training. A training in Dutch but if you’re interested in joining, please inform us so. January is already fully booked, so don’t wait too long to avoid disappointment.
If you’re satisfied with your climbing technique but not yet with your strenght and stamina, we’ve got some good news for you too. The training Bleau Biceps by Wieneke Gehem will start on Saturday 13 January. This 8 week training will definitely make a difference.

Delfts Bleau won’t be hosting a competition for the national competition this spring, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be hosting any competition. On the contrary!
Friday 9 February we organise the db9 with the kids edition the day after.

Saturday 31 March and Sunday 1 April we’ll organise the Delfts Bleau International Youth Open! A comp for the international youth JAB, inspired by the marvelous CWIF of The Climbing Works in Sheffield. Qualifications on Saturday, finals on Sunday. More information will be published soon, but please pencil the dates in your agenda. You can’t boulder that weekend, but a comp without spectators isn’t a comp right?

And we’ve got more in store for 2018. Keep your eye on the website!
